Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750):
Christmas Oratorio, part 1–3 (1734)
Exult, rejoice! With timpani and trumpets, Bach's Christmas Oratorio solemnly calls for hope and joy. Christmas means coming together - in this spirit, the Sinfonieorchester Basel, the La Cetra Vocalensemble and vocal soloists bring Bach's most famous vocal work to the stage to sing along. Together with the audience, selected chorales from the six-part work will be sung.
Beforehand, chief conductor Ivor Bolton will rehearse with all concert visitors who wish to sing along.
Bach wrote a part for each service from Christmas Day to Epiphany, which builds liturgically and musically on the previous one. Music that brings light, radiance and warmth into the Christmas season!
JAUCHZET!
