06:30 PM: Introduction to the concert (in German) in the Hans Huber-Saal with Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, Kian Soltani and Hans-Georg Hofmann

Tickets

Three newcomers conquer the stage of the music hall in this concert. The 23-year-old Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, Viennese with Armenian roots, has been touring the great European concert halls since he was a prizewinner at the international Sibelius competition in 2015. Kian Soltani studied at the Music Academy in Basel and is a sought-after chamber music partner of Daniel Barenboim, among others. Under the direction of Ben Gernon, two scandalous pieces by Wagner and Bartók are on the programme, they frame the Double Concerto by Brahms and the Dances of Galánta by Kodály. Gernon was a student of Sir Colin Davis and assistant to Gustavo Dudamel at the Los Angeles Philharmonic. In 2013 Gernon won the Salzburg Festival's Young Conductors Award, and recently was one of the youngest conductors in the history of the BBC Philharmonic to become its Principal Guest Conductor.

In plain language:

Three musicians will perform at this concert:

  • Emmanuel Tjeknavorian plays the violin since he was five years old. He gives concerts all over the world.
  • Kian Soltani plays the cello since he was four years old. He studied in Basel.
  • Ben Gernon was born in England. He has conducted famous orchestras since he was a young man.
