Die Harmonie der Welt Symphony
Wolfgang Amadé Mozart:
Concerto for Violin and Orchestra No. 5 in A major, Turkish, KV 219
Paul Hindemith's plans for an opera about the life and work of the astronomer and mathematician Johannes Kepler (1571-1630) date back to the 1930s. However, they were not resumed until 1949, when Paul Sacher asked him to write a new work for the 25th anniversary of the Basel Chamber Orchestra. The symphony Die Harmonie der Welt, whose title refers to Kepler's 1619 work Harmonice mundi, was premiered in Basel in 1952.
