Franz Schubert:
String Quintet C Major, D 956
When it comes to Schubert's String Quintet, chamber music lovers strike a whispering note of supreme solemnity. This work is a diamond of the repertoire: incomparably beautiful, of vast expanse, and deeply moving in emotional expressiveness. It belongs to that group of masterpieces which Schubert composed shortly before his early death.
In this unique chamber music work, Schubert makes lavish use of the richness of the string quintet's sound and makes the inwardly turned slow movement the emotional center of this exceptional work - the best opportunity for Emmanuel Tjeknavorian (violin) and Kian Soltani (cello) to make their string instruments sing.
