Ahead of the guest appearance in Salzburg on 26 and 27 May, the planned programs will be performed on 18 and 22 May at Stadtcasino Basel without narrator. There will be three concerts for 50 audience members each. Tickets are limited and will be allotted to subscribers of the orchestra. The program in Salzburg includes Schubert’s Symphony No. 2 and Mendelssohn’s famous Violin Concerto in E minor, played by the young Armenian-Austrian violinist Emmanuel Tjeknavorian. On both evenings, Peter Simonischek, actor at the Viennese Burgtheater, narrates the story of the cunning Greek god Prometheus, whose deeds are set to music in Beethoven’s electrifying ballet Die Geschöpfe des Prometheus. Alain Claude Sulzer, an author from Basel, wrote a text version of the Greek myth especially for the ballet.
