Bäumlihof High School is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a very special project: its 200-strong choir is performing the German Requiem by Johannes Brahms with the Sinfonieorchester Basel in the  Musical Theater Basel. A freethinker in matters of religion, Brahms composed the work during a period of grave doubt about the church as an institution. The result was not funeral music but a work for the living, which raises the ever-relevant question of the relationship between transience and eternity.
