In the first of three chamber music concerts, you will hear a distinctive combination of instruments that is rarely performed together: the bassoon and a string trio. Carl Stamitz, the son of Johann Stamitz — founder of the so-called Mannheim School — wrote a graceful quartet full of melodic ideas for this combination of instruments. Another rarely performed piece is the bassoon quartet by the American composer and bassoonist Bernard Garfield (1924–2025).
It is catchy music that will sweep you away with the joy of the performance.

This concert series gives musicians from the Sinfonieorchester Basel the chance to perform in chamber music ensembles, and offers you an exclusive opportunity to meet our musicians. Experience extraordinary programmes at the Picassoplatz rehearsal centre.
