The Sinfonieorchester Basel is one of the most renowned orchestras in Switzerland. With over 100 musicians from around 25 nations and a dedicated administrative team of approximately 20 staff members, the orchestra helps shape the musical life of the city and region of Basel – at the Stadtcasino, at the Theater Basel, and beyond.

Founded in 1876, the orchestra now serves as the resident ensemble at both the prestigious Stadtcasino Basel – one of Europe’s most outstanding concert halls – and at Theater Basel, where it performs as the permanent opera orchestra. From the 2025/26 season onwards, the orchestra will be led by Principal Conductor Markus Poschner. In addition to symphony concerts and opera productions, the ensemble is regularly invited to perform on international stages.

Behind the scenes, a skilled and committed team of around 20 staff ensures smooth operations. The orchestra’s administrative office covers a broad range of responsibilities: from concert planning, project management and production to orchestra operations, marketing, communications, and sales, as well as orchestral logistics, finance and human resources. Together with the musicians, the team realises over 100 productions annually – including concert tours, CD recordings and music education projects for a variety of audiences.
