An American in Paris tells the story of the American painter Jerry Mulligan (Gene Kelly), who falls in love with the young saleswoman Lise Bouvier (Leslie Caron) in Paris. She replies to Jerry's feelings, but is already engaged. Everything is heading for a tragic end, but at a big costume party the fate of the three takes a surprising turn...
