Maurice Ravel
Concerto for piano and orchestra in G major (1931)
Ernest Chausson
Symphony in B flat major, op. 20 (1890)
The Parisian composer Ernest Chausson was one of the most promising talents in French music. He died at the age of just 44 as the result of a bicycle accident. The premiere of his only symphony in 1890 was a great triumph for the composer. It is a milestone in French music – as is Ravel's Piano Concerto in G major, whose jazz influences give the work a groovy flavour. Also: the world premiere of an orchestral work by Basel-based composer Friedemann Treiber.
