The Sinfonieorchesters Basel is one of the oldest and most innovative orchestras in Switzerland. It can be heard in its own concert series as well as at the Theater Basel and in guest performances at home and abroad. Chief Conductor Ivor Bolton is a renowned specialist in historically informed performance practice. From the 2025/26 season, the equally renowned Markus Poschner will take over as principal conductor. The Sinfonieorchester Basel is the resident orchestra of the Stadtcasino Basel and enjoys an excellent international reputation. The orchestra has around 1,500 subscribers. The orchestra consists of approximately 110 professional musicians. The orchestra office employs about 20 people.
