Reviews of the new Dvořák CD

The Basel Symphony Orchestra's new Dvořák CD under Ivor Bolton has received rave reviews, with praise ranging from 'aural cinema' (Badische Zeitung) to 'narrative gestures and fine tonal detail' (Concerti) and an 'impressive and first-class presentation' of the symphonic poems (Pizzicato). The prestigious Gramophone magazine was also impressed, describing the orchestra under Bolton as 'masters of atmosphere'.

CONCERT CORNER

Introduction to the last subscription concert of the season on 7/8 May 2025
In the latest episode of the 'Concert Corner' podcast, Benjamin Herzog guides listeners through a concert programme that ranges from artistic construction to spiritual uplift. Knussen's musically cryptic orchestral piece, Stravinsky's neoclassical 'Pulcinella' Suite and Mendelssohn's luminous symphonic cantata 'Lobgesang' make for an evening full of contrasts and connections. The Sinfonieorchester Basel, the La Cetra Vokalensemble and soloists Anna Prohaska, Jennifer Johnston and Andrew Staples perform under the baton of principal conductor Ivor Bolton. The podcast is in German.
