The Basel Composition Competition is one of the oldest competitions for chamber and symphony orchestra music. It takes place every two years at the Don Bosco Cultural Centre in Basel - next time from 30 January to 2 February 2025. In the spirit of the Basel conductor Paul Sacher, who died in 1999, the most exciting composers of the 21st century are to be brought to Basel. Ten to twelve compositions will be nominated in a selection process and performed in a public competition by the Kammerorchester Basel, the Sinfonieorchester Basel and the Basel Sinfonietta. The three best compositions will be awarded prizes totalling CHF 100,000. The concerts are open to the public.
