At the invitation of the Kunstmuseum Basel, Hans-Georg Hofmann, artistic director of the Sinfonieorchester Basel, has collaborated with musicians of the Sinfonieorchester Basel to create a musical round dance on the works of the Fauves entitled "Belle Époque".
With the invention of the pedal harp, which can be played by hands and feet simultaneously, audiences in Parisian salons and opera houses became enthralled by the ethereal sounds and their effects on the human soul. Alongside the harp, the cello with its melancholy sound unfolded as the favourite instrument of the Belle Époque. We invite you to an encounter of these two sensual instruments, with a selection of the most popular melodies of the time by Fauré and Saint-Saëns. Works by De Falla and Granados, who influenced the Parisian music scene at the turn of the century with their Spanish rhythms and timbres, round off the programme.
