Johannes Brahms (1833-1897):
Symphony No. 3 in F major, op. 90 (1883)
The opening of our season promises several new encounters. Péter Eötvös (‹ Composer in Residence›) has devoted himself to fragments of Mozart’s sketchbooks. Mozart’s musical brainstorms form the basis for a fascinating dialogue between classicism and modernism. This dialogue is carried on with ‹Artist in Residence› Gabriela Montero’s own interpretation of Mozart’s famous piano concerto in C minor. Perhaps there will also develop a dialogue with the organist Rudolf Lutz, who will open the new season with an improvisation on the new organ of the Stadtcasino Basel. What’s more: there will be Brahms’s Third Symphony, which Clara Schumann affectionately described as a work full of «poetry» and «mysterious charm».
Following the symphony concert on 1 September 2021, SRF music editor Benjamin Herzog invites you to a conversation. The first conversation will take place with: Gabriela Kaegi (SRF Kultur), Alexander Dick (Badische Zeitung) and Reinmar Wagner (Musik & Theater, BZ). The discussion will be recorded and will be available here from Thursday, 2 September.
