Sinfonieorchester Basel
Ivor Bolton, conductor
The 6th edition of the Maurizio Biasini - cciMB International Guitar Competition returns to Basel after more than 10 years. This well-established guitar competition, dedicated to the physicist and guitarist Maurizio Biasini, is closely linked to the city of Basel and its Musik-Akademie Basel.
The competition continues the tradition of meeting, exchanging ideas, performing and learning with young classical guitarists at the city's renowned conservatory, the Musik-Akademie Basel. The semi-finalists are selected by an international jury of renowned guitarists and musicians on the basis of an online video audition.
The finalists will again perform a guitar concerto, this time accompanied by the Sinfonieorchester Basel conducted by Ivor Bolton, as well as the commissioned work cciMB 2024 by Swiss violinist Helena Winkelman. The winner will receive a prize of €12,000 and concert opportunities in Switzerland (Rising Star series of the Allgemeine Musikgesellschaft Basel, 2025/2026), Italy (Musical Association Conoscere la Musica - Mario Pellegrini) and other countries.
While the main objective of the cciMB is to promote young guitarists and their careers, the cciMB also offers its participants the unique opportunity to interact with the members of the jury and other competitors. The motto of the cciMB is "meet, share, perform and learn". The cciMB Festival complements the competition programme with concerts, masterclasses, lectures and other events.
