Ludwig van Beethoven
Sinfonie Nr. 9 d-Moll, op. 125 (1824)
It is 200 years old and yet it has remained forever young: When people talk about the Ninth, they are usually still referring to Beethoven's impressive last symphonic work. The last movement with the chorus Ode to Joy has long since achieved cult status. This work is so monumental that composers after Beethoven found it difficult to even attempt their own number nine. Under the direction of Ivor Bolton, the Sinfonieorchester Basel and soloists from the Theater Basel will perform the powerful-sounding Ninth at the Stadtcasino Basel and the Theater Basel to celebrate the new year.
