Travel information for the 'Wunschkonzert'

A demonstration is planned at 7 pm on 8.3.2023 on Barfüsserplatz. For this reason, we ask you to take this into account when travelling to the 'Wunschkonzert' at 7.30 pm and to arrange enough time if necessary.

Stephan Schmidt talks about 'Concierto de Aranjuez'

The guitarist and director of the Hochschule für Musik FHNW plays at the 'Wunschkonzert'
Stephan Schmidt talks in a video interview about Joaquín Rodrigo's 'Concierto de Aranjuez', a concerto for guitar and orchestra. The poetic concerto is considered one of the best-known works of 20th century classical guitar music and is part of the concert programme of the first request concert of the Sinfonieorchester Basel. The programme was compiled via audience vote. The 'Wunschkonzert' under the direction of chief conductor Ivor Bolton will take place on 8 March 2023 at 7.30 pm at the Stadtcasino Basel.

Markus Poschner becomes new Principal Conductor of the Sinfonieorchester Basel

Ivor Bolton's successor has been chosen: from the 2025/26 season, Markus Poschner will become principal conductor of the Sinfonieorchester Basel
On 30 January 2023, the Foundation Board of the Sinfonieorchester Basel elected Markus Poschner as the new Principal Conductor and successor to Ivor Bolton. Poschner will take up the position of Chief Conductor of the Sinfonieorchester Basel from the 2025/26 season. Poschner comes from a Munich musical family and is not only considered an accomplished opera conductor, but also makes international guest appearances with renowned orchestras.
