OrchestraBeethoven's most significant incidental music
A war in Europe 400 years ago forms the backdrop to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's drama Egmont. Ludwig van Beethoven wrote incidental music for it that has lost none of its power and drama to this day. Instead of just playing the overture, as is usually the case, the Sinfonieorchester Basel will perform the complete music. And what an actor will be joining them! Tobias Moretti with his impressive recitation skills. The role of Klärchen is sung by the highly talented soprano Anna Juniki, who trained in Basel. In French conductor Bertrand De Billy's programme, Beethoven is mirrored by Henri Dutilleux's Symphony No. 2 Le Double. A powerfully exuberant piece of music, yet always characterised by dazzling elegance. Dutilleux skilfully plays with Baroque patterns in the guise of modernity. This light-hearted dream of the past and Beethoven's war experience turned into music form an exciting contrast.
