VioloncelloThe season’s first chamber music programme weaves the virtuosity of the clarinet with the elegance of a top-class string ensemble to create a chamber music concert brimming with operatic splendour. In his Clarinet Quintet in B flat major, Carl Maria von Weber allows the instrument to shine like a prima donna – at times dramatically agile, at others deeply emotive. This operatic flair also permeates the string sextet from Capriccio: Richard Strauss’s tonally exquisite prelude to his final stage work. Here, the boundaries between the operatic stage and the chamber concert are subtly dissolved.
The 2026 Research Award from the Basel Cancer League will be presented during this concert.
Every two years, the Cancer League of the Two Basels honours promising young researchers from the region and supports them in their important work. Their research gives those affected by cancer hope and contributes to the steady improvement in patients’ chances of survival.
At the same time, the Sinfonieorchester Basel is committed to nurturing young musical talent and offers young musicians valuable internship opportunities within the orchestra. This evening, therefore, the spotlight is on talent – in both research and music. Look forward to inspiring encounters, moving music and the honouring of dedicated young individuals.
