This concert programme weaves the virtuosity of the clarinet with the elegance of a first-rate string ensemble to create a chamber music concert brimming with operatic splendour. In his Clarinet Quintet in B flat major, Carl Maria von Weber allows the instrument to shine like a prima donna – at times dramatically agile, at others deeply felt. This operatic gesture also touches upon the string sextet from Capriccio: Richard Strauss’s sound-loving prelude to his final stage work. Here, the boundaries between the opera stage and the chamber concert are dissolved in a floating manner.

The 2026 Research Award from the Basel Cancer League will be presented during this concert.
