mega.musik concerts are aimed at young people aged 12 and over. For each presented school concert, the programme and the presentation are developed together with a school class, who then guide the audience through the concert themselves.

The programme features Antonín Dvořák’s Stabat Mater, Op. 58. Chief Conductor Markus Poschner leads the Sinfonieorchester Basel alongside the choirs of Gymnasium Muttenz, Kirschgarten and Liestal. At Stadtcasino Basel, students in the audience not only hear a full symphony orchestra live but also see people their own age sharing the stage with professional musicians.

Dvořák composed his Stabat Mater after the loss of his children. It is music about grief, but also about comfort and about how to carry on after a loss, which makes it a good starting point for talking about music and emotions in class.

Presenting: The presenting class writes its script under the guidance of music education specialist Lana Zickgraf, with three to four school visits planned. Classes from the 10th school year upwards who would like to present the concert should email Lana Zickgraf by 31st October 2026.
