With Antonín Dvořák’s Stabat Mater, Op. 58, the Sinfonieorchester Basel presents one of the most moving choral works of the Romantic era. Principal Conductor Markus Poschner leads the orchestra alongside the choirs of Gymnasium Muttenz, Kirschgarten and Liestal.

Dvořák wrote the Stabat Mater during the years in which he lost three of his children. The medieval text tells of Mary grieving for her son at the foot of the cross. From it, he created ten movements of music of consolation and hope that is deeply personal and yet universal. It closes with a radiant, almost jubilant Amen.
