Contrasts – Beauty and the Beast story

Podcast episode on the concert programme

Richard Strauss' Duett Concertino tells a kind of “Beauty and the Beast” story. An enchanting clarinet dances with a clumsy bassoon. Clarinettist Rossana Rossignoli and bassoonist Benedikt Schobel are two outstanding soloists from our own ranks. Under the baton of American conductor Robert Treviño, the Sinfonieorchester Basel will also perform Edward Elgar's First Symphony, rarely heard in continental Europe, and Samuel Barber's emotionally intense “Adagio for Strings” – immortalised in Stanley Kubrick's anti-war film “Platoon”.
