This year, the Basler Mädchenkantorei will once again sing beautiful Christmas carols at the traditional Advent concert of the Sinfonieorchester Basel. The young Swiss baritone Äneas Humm will be performing as a special guest. Conducted by 33-year-old Austrian conductor Katharina Müllner, the concert will get everyone in the mood for the approaching Christmas season.
Charismatic, youthful, celebrated – Swiss baritone Äneas Humm captivates audiences on the opera stage and in the concert hall alike. He appeared as Papageno in Mozart's Zauberflöte at the Theater St. Gallen and in Gabriel Fauré's Requiem at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. Samples of his operatic and concert singing talents can now be enjoyed at the Adventskonzert. Humm sings Papageno's playful aria Ein Mädchen oder Weibchen from Mozart's Zauberflöte and fills the hall with the most tender sounds in Richard Wagner's Abendstern from Tannhäuser. As a special treat, the program includes two orchestral songs by Hans Pfitzner: Wanderers Nachtlied and the gently sparkling Es fällt ein Stern herunter. Together with the Mädchenkantorei, he will sing a new arrangement of Florian Walser's popular Christmas medley. The concert will be rounded off with work by Erich Wolfgang Korngold and the Interlude from Wilhelm Stenhammar's romantic cantata Sången – a declaration of love for music by the Swedish composer.
