Johannes Brahms
Serenade No. 1 in D major, op. 11 (1860)
Johannes Brahms composed the Serenade No. 1 in D major from 1857 to 1860, during a period in which he spent the autumn and winter months respectively as pianist, conductor and teacher at the Princely Court in Detmold. During these years he was also intensively occupied with the symphonies of Haydn and Beethoven, whose influence can be heard in the Serenade.
The picnic concert in the courtyard of the Museum der Kulturen is a real treat: bring your own picnic basket and blanket to enjoy the music and the atmosphere.
