Detroit Techno meets Classic: When one of the oldest electronic dance musicians joins forces with one of Switzerland's most important orchestras, we suspect great things. Carl Craig is known for extending the boundaries of the genre that he shaped from the early 90s onwards together with his companions such as Carl Cox, Jeff Mills and Theo Parrish. As one of the most important representatives of the second great Detroit dance music wave, which sloshed across the pond to Europe in the form of cool beats and mischievous snares, his sound was always marked by the future. And even today Craig's acoustic footprint can be traced back to the mark of current productions by Caribou, LCD Soundsystem or Hot Chip. Apart from Grammy nominations and a tight tour schedule as a sought-after DJ, he still finds ways and means to work his way through his own tracks almost 30 years after his first own bassline. On his current album Versus he reconciles electronic and classical music in close collaboration with Francesco Tristano, the orchestra Les Siècles, Francois Xavier Roth and Moritz von Oswald. Together with the Sinfonieorchester Basel, this autumn he will transform some of his techno masterpieces into an orchestra-supported live garb.
